Serie 430 – Verner Panton – Verpan

The Series 430 chair, designed by Verner Panton in 1967 and produced by Verpan, is a piece that embodies both simplicity and comfort, while remaining part of the bold heritage of Danish design. Verner Panton, known for his colourful creations and organic forms, such as the famous Panton chair, offers a more sober, but equally well-considered approach.

Serie 430 – Verner Panton – Verpan

The Series 430 is distinguished by its minimalist and functional design. It was conceived as a chair offering the comfort of an armchair, a challenge met thanks to an upholstered seat combined with a system of elastic straps that adapts to the user's weight. Its wide, enveloping backrest reinforces this cocooning sensation, while its lightweight painted tubular steel frame (generally in black, white or other finishes depending on the version) gives it a discreet elegance and ease of movement. With dimensions of 54 cm wide, 51.5 cm deep and 82 cm high (seat height 47 cm), it is compact and versatile.

Made with an FSC-certified wooden seat covered with CMHR foam (fire retardant), the chair is available in a variety of high-end upholstery, often Kvadrat fabrics such as Hallingdal (wool-viscose blend) or Harald velvet, or even leather options. This collaboration with Kvadrat, the European leader in textile design, underlines the attention paid to materials. The chair is also stackable, making it practical for domestic or professional use, in dining rooms, offices or restaurants.

Although designed in 1967, the 430 Series remained unknown to the general public for decades. It was not until 2015 that Verpan, the official publisher of Panton's works, rediscovered it in the archives and reintroduced it, adapting it to modern standards without altering the designer's original intention. Unlike his more exuberant creations, this chair is based on clean lines and a timeless aesthetic, making it a versatile object, capable of fitting into a variety of interiors.

In short, the Series 430 chair is a fascinating example of Panton's ability to combine innovation, comfort and simplicity. Produced by Verpan, it perpetuates his legacy while offering a refined and practical alternative to his more extravagant designs.

Verner Panton (1926-1998) was an inspirational and colourful personality. A unique person with a special sense of colours, shapes, light function and room. Over the course of his career, Verner Panton (1926-1998) introduced a series of modern lamps with personalities unlike any of his Scandinavian contemporaries. With a remarkable faith in the unlimited possibilities of the form, he worked successfully to create a new set of theories about how lighting should work and how it should influence its surrounding.
