Re-rug

“I've always been struck by the mountains of wool that accumulate over the years due to overproduction in the workshops of our suppliers in India. Re-RUG came along to give them a new lease of life,” explains Nani Marquina.

Re-Rug is the result of a long research process, the challenge of recovering these wools to create a new yarn suitable for weaving. Each Re-Rug uses 1 kg/m2 of reprocessed wool, making a direct contribution to reducing “unmanaged waste”, as well as cutting CO2 emissions, since no virgin material has to be produced.

The Re-Rug collection is manufactured using the hand-woven dhurrie technique, resulting in rugs with a flat structure formed from the crossing of warp and weft. In the case of Re-Rug, in order to achieve greater strength and quality, the structural part of the rug, i.e. the warp, is made from virgin New Zealand wool dyed in black and white, yellow or blue, green or tile. And in the weft, marbled recycled yarn of varying thickness and color. The result is a unique collection composed of 50% new wool and 50% recycled wool.

Nani marquina

True to her roots, Nani Marquina launched her brand in 1987, a time when contemporary rugs didn't exist in Spain.

After studying industrial design at Barcelona's Massana Escuela and building on the success of her first bespoke textile creations, Nani launched nanimarquina, a brand dedicated to the design, creation and distribution of carpets and textile products for the home, based on values such as observation, innovation and enthusiasm, with the aim of using traditional craftsmanship and techniques to create contemporary pieces.

In 1993, Nani Marquina embarked on a bold venture: it moved factories to northern India. The integration of craftsmanship and tradition as a new design concept marked a clear difference, consolidating the brand.
Over the years, the brand has won numerous awards such as the National Design Award and the Premi Cambra un Empresarial la Gestió (Chamber Award for Design Management) in 2005, as well as several nominations for the Príncipe Felipe Company Excellence Award.

Nani Marquina was also recently awarded the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce's International Women's Entrepreneurial Challenge, a personal achievement that led to her being named FIDEM's 2007 Woman Entrepreneur of the Year.

She has served as president of ADP (professional design association) and Red (Reunión Empresas de Diseño). As of 2014, Nani Marquina is President of FAD, Foment de les Arts i Disseny, in Barcelona.
