Fauteuil Little Petra VB1 - &Tradition

‍Initially introduced in 1938, the Little Petra Armchair immediately won praise at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition, subsequently winning awards at shows in New York and Berlin. It is one of the rare creations of architect Viggo Boesen, a member of the funkis group that contributed to the birth of Danish design in the 1930s.

‍Like Finn Juhl, Viggo Boesen loved round, organic forms, asserting himself as a radical counterpoint to the cold, somewhat disembodied stiffness of the Bauhaus.

‍The Little Petra's name was given to it by Boesen's mother-in-law, in reference to its compactness and expressiveness. Close to the floor, open and enveloping, Little Petra is an extremely comfortable lounge chair that allows you to sit in multiple positions. Viggo Boesen's love of woodwork and noble materials is reflected in the choice of solid oak and walnut legs.

Viggo Boesen - &Tradition

A pioneer of his time, Viggo Boesen (1907 - 1985) made great strides in the world of Danish design and architecture, bringing a new perspective to the collective imagination throughout the 1930s. His work reflects the new Scandinavian “Funkis” style, a Nordic version of Art Deco, very much in vogue at the time, which gave rise to a range of surprising shapes and silhouettes.
